Today at work came an order for a print on a mug, client asking to print “1488” on it. So I sent him back this.

Wow, notes to this post are a wild ride. But, to clarify few things: 1) yes, he is a nazi. He literally used cropped out banner from a neo nazi site as a referance for the way he wanted numbers to look. Quick google search led me directly to the page he took the picture from 2) he took his order (which he was paying for after reciving the mug, not paying for it beforehead), which I’m honestly going to believe happened due him freaking out and not having guts to complaing and demend changing it 3) nope, I did not get fired. I do shit ton of work here, both majority of photo editing and souvenir production, so no one will be giving me shit for one “mistake” 4) yes, I could’ve just refused making his order and didn’t do anything at all. But, firstly, fuck nazis, and if he got pissed off when he first saw his new pretty mug I’m glad, either way, he paid for it, so there’s no loss for our company. And, secondary, he made the order literally few days prior Voctory Day, which is one of the most important holidays in Russia and if you don’t see the issue in it… Yikes?
Also for these going on about “unprofessional thing to do, should’ve served them no matter the misguided beliefs :\”, go fuck yourself maybe :\

Or a playstation or a flat screen TV or a newer car, etc and etc. I know people that work under the table for half their pay and get paid on the books for the rest and collect welfare. I know of drug dealers that collect for tax purposes even though they pull in thousands of untaxed money each month dealing. Tell me how I am not supposed to be upset with these people like I am with greedy corporate cronies? I’m not heartless. These people are selfish and unethical.

Except not everyone who has nice things is automatically cheating the system. People are given things as gifts. People buy things and THEN qualify for assistance. People save up for nice things.

You can’t assume what someone’s situation is just by what they own.

We were eating only donated Panera bread, rice, and turnips. My father was sneaking to the various blood banks in town to sell his plasma at twice the rate they allow. My mother was dying due to not having her medicine, which cost well over $1,200 a month after insurance.

My autistic baby brother wanted to do something nice for me.

He worked for months making custom art pieces to sell. He worked up courage despite crippling social anxiety and speech problems to ask the neighbors if he could do chores for them to earn more money - raking the yard, helping clean their house, walking their dogs.

For nine months he carefully hoarded his money in a jar in his bedroom. He counted it every single night and compared it to the cost of what he wanted to get for me for Christmas.

Finally he had enough. He bought me a DS Lite and a pokemon game.

He was so happy.

Until one of our neighbors, a highly conservative jackass, saw me with it outside a couple weeks later. My brother was with me.

The neighbor stormed up and became screaming at us, a pair of teenagers, over how we could be so selfish to spend money on “electronic shit” when we were a family on food stamps. Spittle flying from his lips, cuss words every other second, rage radiating off of him so violently that our father came running out of the house - at a limp, since his spine is broken, which causes him horrific daily pain beyond what I can imagine - to protect us.

My brother was never the same again. There is no happy ending here. That episode in his life changed him permanently and for the past seven years he has almost never left his room and never gone to a friend’s house. He is terrified of the neighbors and believes he is a bad person.

Because of fucking people like you OP.

Because of fuckers who believe that they know what life is like for everyone and have a right to judge.

So fuck you OP. If you know drug dealers, report them, go on and put your ass on the line then. But for fuck’s sake don’t you dare thing you understand what goes on in the life of the people who live in never-ending, grinding poverty. Because you have *no fucking clue* what goes on in the detailed lives of others.

You want to talk selfish? Look in the fucking mirror.

Alright mate. Listen the fuck up because op and whomever agrees with this doesn’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.

“You shouldn’t have an iPhone/iPad”

A'ight so lets address this first. First let me point out something here to give you a little insight - I work with cell phones every day. I sell cell phones. I trouble shoot cell phones. Aka - it is my JOB to know this stuff. It is how I make my living.

Alright so today is February 1st, 2015. I’m going to go onto three main cell phone service providers in the United States - Verizon, US Cellular, and Sprint.

First up is Verizon.

As you can see, with an iPhone 5C if you sign a two year contract you get the phone for FREE. Yes. Free. The iPhone 6 - the newest one out (alongside the 6+ which was released at the same time), you would have to pay $199.99 for a two year contract. HOWEVER. Many cell phone companies are now doing financing for phones. So with the iPhone 6, you pay $0 down, and then split the price of the phone up over 24 months. So basically I’m paying $27 and some change per month to have the phone I want.

Next is US Cellular.

Basically the same thing here. The iPhone 5C is a penny. Yes. One penny. $0.01. I’m paying a PENNY for that phone UP FRONT with a two year contract. Going a step up, I can pay $49.99 for the 5S up front or I can sign up for that financing plan and pay just a little extra per month and pay $0 up front. Same thing with the iPhone 6.

On to Sprint

As you can see, it’s the same thing. I’m paying $0 up front for an iPhone 5C with a two year contract. The iPhone 6 I can get with $0 up front and then pay over the course of a 24 month period.

In every single one of these I can choose an iPhone for pretty much FREE up front. I can even choose to pay just a little more (typically around $20 extra) a month to get a newer model.

But what about tablets? Well! Did you know that cell phone companies like Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular ALSO sell iPads? Fascinating!

Hmm… So I can get an iPad mini for $0 up front on the financing plan… and pay roughly $14 a month for it! Or I can get one with a better screen (Retina display) for only $4 more a month.

Surely this is just a fluke though, right? Nope. Look at Sprint:

I can get the iPad Air OR the iPad Mini 3 both for $0 down and paying just a little extra per month.

And if you think US Cellular isn’t in the game, think again.

If I buy it up front it’s only $280 - but if I finance it… Look at that. $0 down and I pay just a little extra per month.

Funny, for these being ~super expensive luxury items~ there seems to be a lot of ways that I can reasonably afford these items. And while iPads are not a necessity, in this day and age cell phones are. You HAVE to have a phone for potential employers to call you. Which, by the way, if you’re on unemployment or welfare, you are REQUIRED to submit a certain number of applications a week. Which means I have to be actively looking for a job to even qualify. Most employers will not hire you without a phone number to contact you at. It is also incredibly hard for you to be hired if you don’t have a home.

Moving on to tv’s… This is 2015. They don’t sell ANYTHING OTHER THAN FLAT PANEL TVS. Also let’s look at Best Buy and Walmart.

Here you can see that Best Buy is offering a $90 tv, and Walmart is offering an $89 TV. These are both flat panel, these are the cheapest TV’s they offer. Furthermore, BOTH of these companies ALSO offer financing - so you don’t HAVE to pay that up front. You can make monthly payments.

Newer car… Again, it’s called financing. If you have good credit, you can finance a car for a decent amount per month. And before you say you can’t have good credit and be on welfare, think again. I just got told my whole office is being laid off. I have a new car (a 2014) and have been making payments on it since I got it. However I’m not going to have a job soon and considering the job market, I will probably be on welfare/unemployment until I can find one. I have good credit, so what do I do? I go and refinance my car. That means I have them pay off my current loan and get another loan for the same car, but on the remaining price. This means I pay LESS per month. Which means I’m more likely to be able to pay for my car, even on welfare. I’ve ALSO moved in with someone to help split rent, utility, and grocery costs.

And before you try to say “oh but you don’t NEED a car” you should probably stop and think. If you’re in one of the places that you DON’T need a car, then you’re in a considerably wealthy place. Because in many areas there is little to no public transportation. Everything is spread out - which means to survive you HAVE to have a car. You have to have one to get to and from the grocery store, to the unemployment office, to interviews, to the doctor. If you don’t have a car you literally have no way to get around to do anything to support yourself.

This is of course not even mentioning that these are REGULAR PRICES. These prices that I’ve listed aren’t promotions. Which means there are times when you can pay EVEN LESS for any of these things I’ve mentioned

So don’t EVEN BEGIN to tell me what someone on welfare can or cannot get. You don’t know anything about the market for electronics, you don’t know anything about the process to even qualify for unemployment or welfare. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE.

So this is an old post, but I’ve seen a lot of posts regarding this same thing going around so I figured I’d bring this back. While the prices and items listed here may be different nowadays, the same argument stands.
